In our Countryside Arena at the Burghley Game and Country Fair, we focus on traditional countryside pursuits
Jonathan Marshall’s ‘Free Spirits Show’ is a unique display which combines ancient horsemanship skills with the medieval art of falconry. When married together and accompanied by beautiful music and costume this show becomes a spectacle like no other. The carefully choreographed performance is exciting, emotional and incredibly beautiful.
Costume and showmanship make this a display like no other and was recently featured on BBC1’s Countryfile and then repeated on their ‘best of ‘ edition.
Shadowquest Dog Display Team
A stunning display with these fabulous working dogs. Watch the abseiling spaniel, the search and find dogs, the security dogs and the amazing fiery climax. Not to be missed!
Watch these gentle and magnificent giants in action as they move to the music in this stunning display of horsemanship. Meet some of the horses and understand some of the power behind their movement, expertly reined in to dance.
Watch these stunning birds of prey as they swoop and soar above the Countryside Arena. Handled by some of the UK’s top falconers, Chris Neal, Ray Pickup and the team from the Falconry Centre. You will learn how they are flkown, how they are used in pest control and sport, and you may even have the opportunity to come into the arena and fly one yourself.
Again, you are welcome to meet the birds afterwards in the designated Falconry Marquee.
Simon Whitehead, his lurcher and his team of ferrets will demonstrate how these little animals are used for the good of the countryside and farming world.
Simon is a true country man and shares a wealth of experience and understanding in this fascinating display.
We may be lacking in water in the Countryside Arena, but our angling experts Time Gaunt Baker, Peter Johnson, Ian Kilgour and Barry Grantham will be welcoming young volunteers into the arena to learn about fly casting in this informative demonstration.
If this grabs your interest, head over to our angling marquee where you can book your own individual tuition, or ask any questions of our angling experts from Trout and Salmon Conservation UK or the Angling Trust.
